NOTES FROM NANCARROW
Our Romney x Longwool sheep have almost finished lambing, producing the whitest & woolliest of lambs who have been the stars of the show for our recent school visits. Supported by the fantastic Great Cornish Food, students from Penair School & Truro College visited the farm this week to learn more about the workings of a farm-to-table restaurant. Groups made flatbreads & greenhouse salsa verde with Adam & took part in sausage making sessions with Jack before some tree planting and a farm tour. A full schedule of primary school visits with Lucy, Lizzie and Eve restart next week, which run through to Easter.
The weather window has aided progress in the veg gardens. New rhubarb, artichokes, currants and gooseberries have been planted. Spring seedlings are progressing nicely in the potting shed, and most beds have had a weed and a mulch in preparation for the big plant out.
Earlier in the week some of the team gathered for a little workshop trial with Jack, ahead of our ‘Day at Nancarrow’ events that begin in April. The Old Mill is a such a special space to base these events -steeped in family farming history. It overlooks the new orchard and perennial garden, with views over the hay meadow down the valley, it’s beautiful backdrop, and a welcoming space that we’re excited to be spending more time in.
