What’s On

Our 1000 Mouths event combines evening feasts with daytime festivities. Below is a taste of what’s in store if you’re joining us for the day, we’ve tried to ensure there is something for everyone and we hope you’ll join us!

Food & Drink

Over the course of the weekend, we’ll be welcoming 1000 guests to the farm. Enjoy street food from our woodfired courtyard kitchens by day, and Feasts in our barns by night. The menus will provide a true nose-to-tail dining experience, celebrating some of the finest produce (and producers) from the South West – alongside organic beef from one of our own Red Devon bullocks.

We’re delighted to be joined by Paul Ainsworth, Dan Cox, Ben Tish, Adam Banks, Beautiful & the Feast, Cabrito and Tom Griffiths.

Talks

During the day, writer, broadcaster, teacher and all-round good egg Steve Lamb will bring chat, expertise and humour to our tractor shed where fire pit talks and demos will be taking place.

Steve will be hosting topical and interesting chats covering farming, soil health and wilder beef with Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Cool Earth as well as a sustainable firewood and woodland management. We’ll be joined by Alice Robinson who will be showing us how items of clothing can be made from a Nancarrow hide plus Steve and our head chef, Jack will be carrying out butchery and curing demos.

Firepit Demos

Throughout the weekend the firepit will be lit, with demonstrations from a host of guest chefs, including Ben Tish, Stephen Knowles and James Whetlor, who’ll be cooking some of their favourite food from the fire. Learn new and old techniques from some of the masters and gobble the results!

Wild Walks & Farm Tours

Earlier this year, we carried out some work at the bottom of our valley to create extra habitat for wildlife and as special place to take a wonder through the fields and out to our wild beehive. We’ll be joined by the wonderful Stuart Woodman who will be on hand to impart his forgaging knowhow!

Children’s Trails & Activities

As well as enjoying the outdoor space to run around, children can follow the trail around the farm spotting wildlife, flowers and the animals. Our craft tent will host some hands-on fun with some help from the Cornwall Wildlife Trust team.

Squashbox Theatre

We’ve been hoping to get Craig Johnson to the farm for some time and we’re delighted to have him performing ‘The Sea Show’ on Sunday 6th October in our Rusty Barn. There will be two opportunities to watch the performance on the day and it’s included in the ticket entry price!

Farm Shop

In our larder, as well as delicious cakes, hot drinks, local brews and savoury snacks, you’ll be able to purchase produce from the farm, prints and wool.

We’ll be joined by a few friends who will have stalls by the pond – No.2 Preserves will be selling their pickles, jams and chutneys; Tinkture will be providing tastings of their beautiful rose gin; Moorswood will be offering the chance to get hands-on with some basic leather making sessions; Hog & Tallow will be selling their hand-crafted soaps including one made especially for the event and Woodman’s Wild Ales will have a selection of craft beers to sample and take home!

Local crafts & Apple pressing

The Forge is a collective of Cornish Blacksmiths and they have become a bit of a regular at our events for creating a bit of a spark! Tristan, James & Sanny are back for 1000 Mouths and this time, they will be helping guests to make toasting forks!

Meet woodsman Tom Kemp who will be on the farm for wood and tree themed conversation plus charcoal-making demos in our kitchen garden.

A very welcome addition to our Spring Gathering earlier this year, the members of the Cornwall Association of Woodturners are returning for the weekend and are running 15-minute taster sessions.

Potting Shed

With gorgeous flowers grown just a few miles away from our farm and often featured on our Feast night tables, Clare and Janet from Hendra Farm will be returning to take over our Potting Shed in the farmhouse garden – a ‘must-see’ over the weekend! They will be on-hand to give tips and advice for any budding growers and enthusiasts.

Meet the animals

Our residents will be ready to greet you! We have friendly pigs, noisy geese, fluffy chickens, ‘ansome cattle and wooly sheep – plus plenty of wildlife!

You can meet our bees, see the hives and hear all about these wonderful creatures which are so important for our environment.
